MY JOURNEY, THIS IS MY STORY

EMBRACE THE STRUGGLE

I am a big believer in the phrase “you live and you learn”. You can always learn something from any situation. After the stroke I became more organized,; I now plan ahead and set everything up well in advance, and that way, I am always ready for what’s ahead.

When you embrace the struggle and accept it, you are able to move forward. Because of the surgery on my skull, I initially changed my hairstyle to cover up the scar. Eventually, I learned to embrace the scar because it made people curious and it became a gateway into conversations about my stroke and what I have gone through. I was able to bring awareness to how serious strokes are and shed a little light on them. With every conversation, I came to realize how lucky I was and that it could have been a lot worse.

At the end of the day, as lucky as I am, there is always hope that things will get back to normal. I have faith that they will. I will continue to go forward.

Work with what you have and make the most of it.
